Hiring Employees
When you hire an employee you must have them complete the following forms:
1.Form W-4: Employee's Witholding Allowance Certificate
This form gives you the information needed to know how to withold for federal income taxes.
2.Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification
This form is to be completed to ensure that you are not hiring illegal individuals to work.
Hiring Contractors
When engaging contractors and subcontractors there are a few items you must get to protect yourself.
1. Certificate of Insurance showing that the contractor has both workman's compensation and general liability insurance.
2.Form W-9 : Request for Taxpayer Identification Number
This ensures that you have the contractor's ID number and address to send them a 1099 - Misc Form at year end if necessary.
